For years there has been a wall down the middle of your reporting. Google Search Console told you how your website performed in search. Instagram and TikTok told you how your posts performed on Instagram and TikTok. Nobody told you how your social posts performed in Google. On Wednesday that wall came down. Google made Search Console platform properties available to every user worldwide, and it is the first property type you can verify without owning a website at all.
SEO and search
Search Console now reports on your Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube accounts
Google showed platform properties to a small group on 7 July. On 29 July it opened them to everyone. You add one the same way you have always added a property: open the property selector, choose Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube instead of a domain, and authorise the connection. Search Console then reports the clicks, impressions and actual search queries that Google Search, Discover and Google News send to that account’s posts.
Why this matters for your business: if you have been posting to Instagram or YouTube on faith, you now have real numbers. Set this up this week, wait a fortnight, then compare which posts pulled search clicks against which pulled in-app engagement. Those two lists are usually very different, and the search list tells you what customers were actively looking for.
AI Overviews now appear on roughly half of all searches
Tracking published this week puts AI Overviews on somewhere between 43 and 48 percent of Google queries, and around 68 percent of all searches now end without a click on anything. Google confirmed earlier this month that Gemini 3.5 Flash powers every query, not only the conversational AI Mode tab. The impact is uneven: instructional “how do I” queries are almost entirely absorbed by AI answers, while commercial queries such as “price of” or “best for” still trigger AI Overviews only a few percent of the time in retail.
Why this matters for your business: stop judging your blog by sessions alone. Informational articles increasingly earn a citation rather than a visit, and a citation still builds trust. Put your budget behind pages that answer buying questions, because those keep converting clicks. If your traffic is down but your enquiries are steady, this is probably why.
More unconfirmed ranking movement, and no update to blame
Trackers registered heavy ranking volatility on 23 and 24 July, following a similar swing over the 18 and 19 July weekend. Google has confirmed neither. The last confirmed changes were the June 2026 spam update, which ran from 14 to 26 June, and the May 2026 core update before that. Constant unconfirmed flux has been the pattern all year, much of it tied to Google testing AI Overviews and AI Mode rather than to any single named change.
Why this matters for your business: do not rip up your content plan over a bad fortnight. Record what moved and when, wait for a full two weeks of data, and only act if a pattern holds. Rewriting pages during volatility is how businesses lose rankings they would have recovered anyway.
Social and paid
ChatGPT Ads Manager grows up
OpenAI shipped eight changes to its ads platform on 24 July. The important ones are conversion-optimised cost-per-click bidding, automatic advanced matching for website conversion tracking, geographic exclusions, a bulk editing API, and product cards carrying price and star ratings. Daily budgets also became average daily budgets with spend pacing. Until now ChatGPT Ads only optimised for clicks, which made it hard to justify against Google or Meta.
Why this matters for your business: paid search is quietly becoming a two-platform game. You do not need to move budget yet, but you do need conversion tracking that is clean and portable, so make sure your conversion events are properly defined and firing before you are asked to test a second platform. Geographic exclusions matter locally too, they let you cut spend on provinces you cannot service.
LinkedIn and TikTok push AI into the ad tools
LinkedIn added AI ad copy generation inside Campaign Manager and renamed Easy Apply to LinkedIn Apply. TikTok opened a Mini Dramas ad format that lets brands promote their own microseries content, and now allows AI video generation directly inside the editor timeline.
Why this matters for your business: generated ad copy is a decent first draft and a poor final one. Use it to produce five variants quickly, then rewrite the winner in your own voice before it runs. The gap between competitors is no longer who can produce more, it is who sounds like a real business rather than a template.
Content and AI
Instagram’s Partnership Ads API changes how creator deals should be written
Instagram launched an API that lets brands run paid media using creator content directly from the creator’s own handle, with attribution and performance tracking built in. It removes most of the friction that made whitelisted creator ads a manual, awkward arrangement.
Why this matters for your business: your creator contracts probably do not cover this. Before your next collaboration, agree in writing on paid usage rights, how long you may run the content as an ad, and whether it runs from their handle or yours. Sorting that out upfront is far cheaper than renegotiating once a post is already performing.
Kimi K3 puts a very large AI model in anyone’s hands
Moonshot AI released Kimi K3 on 17 July as an open-weight model with 2.8 trillion parameters, the largest publicly downloadable model so far. Demand was heavy enough that new subscriptions were suspended within two days. Independent benchmarks are still thin, so treat the performance claims carefully, but the direction is clear.
Why this matters for your business: the cost of producing average content is heading towards zero, which means average content will stop earning anything. Your advantage is the things a model cannot generate: your own customer data, your case studies, photographs of your actual work, and a point of view someone can disagree with. Spend your content budget there.
What to do this week
- Add your Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube accounts as Search Console platform properties. It takes minutes and the data starts collecting immediately.
- Check whether your conversion tracking is properly configured, not just installed. You will need it if you test a second ad platform.
- Separate your reporting into informational pages and commercial pages, and judge each by the right measure.
- Note the dates of any ranking movement, but change nothing for two weeks.
- Add paid usage rights to your next creator agreement before the work starts.
If you would like a hand setting up platform properties, or you want to understand what AI Overviews are doing to your particular traffic, get in touch and we will take a look with you.
